I always knew that those movies about the nerdy kid who sat at home playing video games yet somehow uses his knowledge to save the world were realistic. We CAN do it! The proof is in the pudding (still not sure what that phrase means but sounded right there).
As if the Wii and iPhone needed any more positive marketing... apparently now the military will be using the Wiimote in sophisticated bomb detection. The Packbot (made by iRobot) searches for bombs and disposes of them out in the battle field. Who controls these robots? Well, if you have mastered the Wii sports games then even you could be the next operator. The military also plans to use the iPhone in coordination with the Wiimote as its size and transportability make for an ideal match.
So the next time the world is about the come to an end and the hopes are resting with one pimply faced teenager, fear not because his Wii skills and iPhone talents are just what the doctor ordered! I feel better already.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating is a very old proverb. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations dates it back to the early 14th century, albeit without offering any supporting evidence for that view. The phrase is widely attributed to Cervantes' in The History of Don Quixote. That appears to be by virtue of an early 18th century translation by Peter Motteux, which has been criticised by later scholars as 'a loose paraphrase' and 'Franco-Cockney'. Crucially the Spanish word for pudding - 'budÃn', doesn't appear in the original Spanish text.
I hope the Wii skills translate to some skill that the youth of American use to protect us old folks. Good luck to them.
I just want to know whether anyone ever claimed that video games CAN NOT save the world? Seems pretty obvious that they can; it's pretty much the only other thing I do in video games other than winning football games or being a rock star.
Good Point J-Bone. I do think the elder folks view video games as those things that punk kids play. If they knew they were learning to save the world then they might view them differently.
